"I began to feel that life was worth living again"
The pain in my lower back began when I was about thirty, gymnastics, judo and a bad traffic accident had all taken their toll. Physiotherapy, osteopathy and medication had helped over the years, but in spite of this, and taking exercise (jogging and swimming as and when I could) I felt I was fighting a losing battle. I gradually began to take less exercise and put on weight, which led to taking less exercise and putting on more weight – a vicious circle.
My wife, who is very conscientious about diet and exercise, has had arthritis since her youth. In 2001 she discovered Hope Spinal Wellness. She found that the treatment was doing her good, and suggested that I try it.
But you can’t tell anyone anything until their ready to hear it, can you? I demurred – I had tried it all, I said: various types of massage in Cyprus, Korea and Kuwait, even a bone – setter in Turkey. I settled down to what I envisaged as a slow and irreversible deterioration. My GP helped me, and I had X-rays and medication, but the chronic pain continued, varying intermittently from a dull ache to a sharp pain. I became very down in my mood.
Then I was diagnosed as having diabetes and psoriatic arthritis. I had read about chiropractic- the theory, which states that disease can be caused by misalignment of spinal vertebrae- ‘subluxations’ and decided to give it a try. In desperation, six years after my wife had recommended Hope Spinal Wellness, I followed my wife’s advice.
In July 2007 I saw Veronica for the first time, she found a body that was quite out of kilter. To compensate for my shoulder pain I was leaning heavily to the other side so my balance was all wrong and my lower back was very painful. I slouched when I walked and slumped when I sat down. Under Veronica’s care I soon began to understand how a healthy spine was the answer to many of my problems and gradually with two visits a week, then one I became more supple and active. Last year I went swimming (I used to be a champion swimmer) for the first time in a decade.
Not unnaturally, I began to feel that life was worth living again. Now I’m walking about a mile a day for exercise, doing the exercises Veronica prescribed for me and looking forward to the future. It’s not the London marathon, but it’s a start. I’m slowly losing weight (about a pound a week) my diabetes has improved to the extent that I’ve been able to halve my drug dosage.
I know that healing depends on many things: the personality of the healer, the attitude of the patient, the method of healing (and of course, time). I have to say that these factors obtained at Hope: the practice- from booking to reception to treatment to re-exam and education – resonates with Hope. I should have done all this years ago.
If you’re into your seventies, feel you’re living inside an ailing machine, which you’d quickly do something about if it were your car, try Hope – it’s working for both Jeanette and myself.

"Everyone at Hope is 100% professional and helpful"
I first approached Hope Spinal Wellness for a second opinion, having been fairly horrified at a quote from another practice for similar treatment. I have suffered from a stiff neck for several years, possibly caused by one of my numerous horse riding or bike riding falls. It has probably been misaligned for many more years without me even knowing it. I have spent a small fortune trying many different kinds of treatment – physiotherapy, osteopathy, acupuncture and while these treatments gave temporary relief nothing was sorting out the root of the problem. I lead a very active outdoor life and within a couple of days my lifestyle seemed to be undoing all the temporary relief I had gained. I own three horses and cart muck, water, hay and straw about on a daily basis which obviously puts a strain on my back. I also was walking in a very lopsided way and stooping forwards. A common problem I have since discovered. Three years ago I was also diagnosed as suffering from an inflammatory disease and I do have stiffness in other parts of my body, at one stage I was not able to kneel on the floor and get myself up unaided but I have always been determined not to let this condition get the better of me. It was totally refreshing to meet Veronica who has the same opinion about conventional drugs as I do.
Veronica was not daunted about attempting to treat me even though I told her I couldn’t stop mucking out my horses which obviously puts a strain on my back and I signed up for 3 months of treatment starting with two adjustments a week. The first few weeks were not a bed of roses and I felt really ill. I started the Stretch Class after 3 weeks of treatment and this very nearly killed me off but I persevered. I have been to every monthly stretch class since starting adjustments and as predicted by Veronica it’s easier each time. Veronica is inspirational in motivating you and keeping you that way.
The Wednesday workshops are brilliant and keep you on track. I feel I am not alone in my quest for a drug free life. Since the Healthy Eating Workshop I have been taking Krill Oil and I have given up drinking coke which I used to consume on a daily basis. It’s water and more water.
After a couple of months of treatment I was able to get myself up from the floor with nothing to hang on to. I do my exercises on a daily basis and also use my traction unit. I can move my neck much more freely and my posture is less stooped. People who haven’t seen me for a while comment how much better I am walking and from the posture photo taken at 3 months I am very obviously less stooped. I not entirely without stiffness but my mobility has drastically improved.
I am now down to one adjustment a week and seem to be holding my own. I have had a rough few weeks emotionally and this did affect the tension in my back and neck but nothing that Veronica and Becky with massages can’t sort out.
Everyone at Hope is 100% professional and helpful. Veronica and Scott seem to hand pick people who are friendly. When Veronica is away I have no worries about Roz doing the treatment, she’s every bit as good. I had an appointment with Michelle about another issue I have and she was lovely and spent far longer listening to me than the appointment time. Becky is brilliant (but brutal) at massaging tight muscles and Sue always makes you feel welcome.
I would definitely go without other essentials in life to be able to carry on having treatment at Hope. I want to keep my back as healthy as I possibly can and I just wish I had started treatment when I was younger. In my opinion back treatment is as important as routine dentistry.
Many Thanks Alison F

"I feel much better altogether"
For about a year to 18 months I had been suffering with an acute pain in my upper left arm. It started very spasmodically, you know, just the occasional jab. Then gradually the pain lasted longer, periods between each spasm got shorter until in the end I was in almost continual pain. It didn’t seem to matter what I was doing or not doing. I could be driving, reading, knitting, and doing nothing, asleep – it was very persistent. It got so I would move my arm as little as possible and consequently movement became much harder. I tried taking anti-inflammatory and other painkillers but to no avail. Eventually I had had enough and I went to my GP. His immediate thought was rheumatoid arthritis so blood tests were done but fortunately for me they were negative. So what was the problem? My GP suggested I visit a Chiropractor or had acupuncture as he thought I might have a trapped nerve. However when I asked him to recommend one he said he couldn’t. I walk or drive past the Hope Family Clinic almost on a daily basis as it is very near my home. There are always cars in the car park so I thought what better place to start and boy am I glad I came here.
My first reaction on entering the building was how welcome you were made to feel by everyone. Julia was the first person I saw and she welcomed me by my first name which I thought was so nice and informal – nothing is ‘starchy’ here. I then met Scott and subsequently Dr. Veronica who were both very professional but at the same time put me completely at ease. However by the time Dr. Veronica had finished her examination of me I began to wonder if there was any part of me that was OK! When I went back for the results of my x-rays and examination the problem with my neck was worse than I had feared. Dr Veronica said it would take anything between 6 months and a year to get me ‘right’. Obviously expense came into it but this was my health we were talking about, so to my mind I only had one choice.
I started treatment immediately and now just two months down the line, the pain is greatly reduced. It doesn’t wake me up at night any more, there is no more severe stabbing which was so deep you couldn’t get at it to rub it better, I have much better movement in my arm in general and because of all of this, I feel much better altogether – I am not waiting for the next stab of pain.
I also have arthritis and a degenerating disc in my lower spine, which I have had for many years and had learned to live with. From taking three tablets a day to control the pain I had gradually weaned myself off these to taking one every other day before I started at Hope Clinic. Already I am now down to two a week and I have notice a big improvement. I can walk better without that dragging feeling I used to get and I can actually sleep on my back for the first time in years.
I must admit I was sceptical at first as to how much spinal treatment would improve my symptoms but I am now totally convinced and have recommended Hope Clinic to several people already.
Thank you Dr. Veronica
"Hope Spinal Wellness and myself are healing my body from the inside out and I thank them for their time, understanding, help and support"
I was 14 years old and jumping on a trampoline during a P.E. lesson at school. Suddenly when I landed a pain shot up from the heels of my feet to the base of my spine. The pain lasted for weeks and made sitting and standing very uncomfortable. I was told I was too young to have a bad back and so nothing was done. A couple of years later I slipped on black ice on a slope, and landed chin first. From the age of about 17 I’ve suffered frequent headaches, migraines and prolonged pain in my lower back and shoulders if I stood or sat for any extended period of time. Going to bed at night was always painful, the first 15 minutes of lying down would be quite excruciating as my back stretched out. My G.P. suggested that I take two paracetamol every four hours to break the cycle of my headaches, and that I had massages to alleviate the tension in my shoulders. These things never really made any difference though.
After ten years a doctor finally suggested chiropractic to me. The chiropractic care I initially received was relief care. It involved me visiting a chiropractor every six weeks, stripping down to my underwear and having every bone in my neck and back cracked. It helped a great deal, but the process was very uncomfortable and I would be sore and bruised for days afterwards. The relief was always temporary and I needed to go every six weeks to keep the pain and headaches manageable. My symptoms were considerably alleviated but never went away. I was never told what was actually wrong with my spine, or why I kept getting headaches, and I had no idea as to ways to help myself.
Nearly two years ago I discovered Hope Spinal Wellness, a completely new and different approach to spinal healthcare. For the first time I knew what was wrong with my spine – seven postural imbalances, subluxations in my lower back, around my shoulder blades and in my neck. I knew why my headaches were so frequent and so long in duration. I understood that headaches were an effect and the cause was subluxation. I learned about posture and realised how awful mine was. I received a traction unit to use at home and was given structured exercises to support my wellness care treatment. The adjustments were also very different; only the areas that needed correcting were adjusted, I was able to wear my clothes and each adjustment took only a matter of minutes and left no bruises or soreness. The treatment was more intensive, three times a week initially, and then reduced to twice and finally once.
The relief was not instantaneous, but gradual. As the weeks went on the headaches went away, the soreness in my shoulders and lower back decreased and I was less and less aware of my back. The first few times that I went to bed and it wasn’t agony are very memorable. I suddenly realised that the pain I’d accepted as normal, clearly wasn’t, and that other people didn’t experience it. Going to the cinema isn’t such a big deal any more, I don’t have to think about which seats I sit in or how long the film is because I can sit down in a relatively small space now for several hours without being in pain or discomfort. I don’t have to plan a day of doing nothing if I want to go dancing one night, because I’m not in terrible pain the next day anymore. I can drive long distances to visit people without suffering when I get there. The compromises I used to make on what I wanted to do and what I could do pain-free were something I hadn’t considered or realised that I did until I didn’t have to do them anymore.
Granted I still have bad days, but my bad days are now what I used to class as good days, they are manageable and I have exercises and traction I can do to alleviate the symptoms.
One of the most important aspects of Hope Spinal Wellness is the positive attitude of the staff. The aim is to educate you as well as treat you, which made me feel so much more in control and helped me realise that I could make a difference. Their support and understanding made it feel achievable and knowing what was wrong with my spine made such a difference to my outlook. I don’t take painkillers anymore, if I have a headache or back pain I use traction, ice packs and shoulder rolls to treat it. People used to say I rattled from all the medication I used to take, that’s not the case anymore! Aside from the actual symptoms of pain and headaches, I have far fewer colds and my general state of health has improved considerably.
I can’t believe the results that have been achieved. If only someone had encouraged me to do this earlier, the difference it could have made to my life is immense. I’m so glad I’ve found Hope Spinal Wellness now and would highly recommend it to anyone, whether the symptoms are back pain, headaches, constant throat infections etc. Your body has an innate intelligence – an ability to heal itself, it can’t work effectively if it is subluxated. Hope Spinal Wellness and myself are healing my body from the inside out and I thank them for their time, understanding, help and support in getting me this far.
"Its so nice to be able to do every day things that I hadn’t been able to do for many years."
When I first came to Hope Spinal Wellness I had chronic pain in my lower back and neck and my shoulders and head were very bent over. I had to get help to put my shoes and socks on as my back pain would not allow me to do this myself.
To get myself fit I was going to the gym as advised by my doctor, as there were no tablets or medications that really stopped the pain. This affected my walking and general everyday movements so I was feeling very frustrated and low.
Just before Christmas 2011 I was leaving the gym and I spoke to Dr Roz. We spoke for a few minutes and I decided to go and see her at Hope Spinal Wellness. On my first visit Dr Roz took some x-rays so she could pin point my aches and pains. After just a few visits I was beginning to feel better and was standing more upright. I also attended weekly wellness workshops which helped me with my eating and exercise. After 2 months of regular treatments, exercises, workshops and stretching at the gym, I am now putting my own shoes and socks on and bending down to pick things up which I couldn’t do before I started Chiropractic care.
You must have faith, have your adjustments, do your exercises at the gym and stretching at home or wherever you can and don’t hang back if you have back pain or pain anywhere else. You can have it looked after at Hope Spinal wellness and enjoy life again like I am doing, something I thought I would never do again. It’s so nice to be able to do every day things that I haven’t been able to do for many years..
"My general health has improved, I have fewer infections and any aggravating aches and pains I arrive with are dealt efficiently"
Six years ago an x-ray of my neck revealed fusion, which was causing discomfort in my arms and hands. I had physiotherapy for two months, which gave me a little relief but prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs aggravated my digestive system.
Three years ago I had an accident that caused me a lot of lower back pain. I had physiotherapy for two months, took painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. I was unable to work for seven months and when I did return I had to have a different job.
Two years ago I had a car accident in which I suffered whiplash injuries. My back injury was further irritated. I politely declined physiotherapy but took even stronger painkillers as I had some horrible headaches. I was unable to work for another three months.
Having had a miserable summer I was encouraged to try spinal wellness care by an advertisement in our local newspaper for Hope Spinal Wellness: Open Day. The doctor recommended that I return for a full examination. Later that week I had static and thermal scans. My body was well and truly off the mid-line resulting in poor posture. Twice weekly adjustments commenced after which I felt rather odd as I was gradually straightened up. I was definitely relieved to dispense with all the drugs though. After a month I was re-scanned and a significant improvement was apparent. I then went on to the wellness plan and have one adjustment a week. I have the full support of my G.P. for this treatment.
There is always a cheerful welcome from all the staff, which instils a feeling of care and warmth. My general health has improved, I have fewer infections and any aggravating aches and pains I arrive with are dealt efficiently. If I arrive with a headache it is dispatched within an hour of adjustment. Recent x-rays of my lower back revealed an imbalance of 12mm and a heel lift in my shoe has relieved some of the discomfort.
I have found spinal wellness care to be very suitable for me and I hope others can be helped too.
"To all you magicians at Hope Spinal Wellness; just a quick note to say a big thank you."
To all you magicians at Hope Spinal Wellness;just a quick note to say a big thank you. Just a few months ago I just about managed to walk into your practice with chronic lower back pain. After a full review of my back and its sad history of abuse through sport, work and various accidents you surprised me by telling me about problems that I had not previously considered.
The instant relief over the first few treatments was most welcome but the ongoing work was the most impressive aspect to my case.
By following the course of adjustments coupled with the exercises and traction programme the benefits have been beyond my expectations. I am now more pain free than I have been in years and getting back to my (almost) winning ways.
I know that I will never attain the levels in sport that I was capable of 15 years ago, but to be able to spend a weekend in Snowdonia racing mountain bikes makes life worth living. Only four months ago I was told by my doctor that I would have to live with my back problems which meant I could not even ride a bike on the road. You guys know that I was not going to let that happen and with your help I have just had one of the best weekends in years.
"Get the spine right and everything else falls into place."
I have had problems with my back going back over 20 years. At first I was given painkillers and told to have bed rest, which needless to say treated the symptoms, but not the cause. Following a traumatic occasion when my whole back went into muscle spasm I was given very strong pain killing injections and could not get out of bed for 3 days during which time I became dehydrated and many bodily functions closed down completely. I was referred to a back specialist at the hospital who gave me two cortisone injections in the sacro-iliac joint, and sent me for physiotherapy, then hydrotherapy and to a back school at the hospital for exercises. Nothing seemed to give me much relief and I was always afraid of collapsing again.
It was only when we moved house and registered with a new doctor that I was referred straight away to a chiropractor and the problems with my back started to improve. I had regular chiropractic treatment for 14 years, but recently due to moving house to Canterbury I missed 6 months of treatment. This resulted in my condition deteriorating significantly again. In addition around this time I started to suffer from severe IBS and neck stiffness as well as my low back pain. I felt tired all the time and could not get through the day without a sleep in the afternoon which often meant I could not sleep well at night. I used to swim twice a week but I had to stop that when the IBS started so I was not even getting my usual exercise. My previous chiropractor had given me some names of chiropractors in Kent. I decided it was time to contact one of them and fortunately for me I chose Hope Spinal Wellness.
I was shocked by my X-rays which showed a badly aligned neck and hip bone 2 cm higher on one side compared with the other. I was feeling really depressed at the time and had some reluctance to commit to an intense programme of treatment – but I am now so glad that I did. Even after just one month’s treatment, coming 3 times a week for adjustments I was amazed at how much better I felt and after two months I now feel even better. The IBS has improved dramatically and I no longer have to take medication for the pain and discomfort. I no longer need an afternoon sleep and I have much more energy during the day and hence sleep better at night. My posture has improved, I feel more upright when standing and even when sitting. I am trying to do the exercises each day and drink lots of water and follow the advice given at the very worthwhile workshops held on a Wednesday evening.
It just shows that pills are not always the answer as they treat the symptoms not the cause. Get the spine right and everything else falls into place. I hope others will be reassured from hearing of my experience and give spinal adjustments a try – I am sure you will not be disappointed with the results.
My Chiropractor Veronica Hope has become my inspiration to achieve complete health in my mind body and spirit. In just 8 weeks of chiropractic care Veronica has helped me regain my mobility, independence and enjoyment of life. Veronica has a great positive attitude, tremendous enthusiasm and skills as a chiropractor and genuine compassion for people in her care. I learnt all this about Veronica before I was even able to meet her face to face, for the first few ‘emergency’ visits to her practice I was only able to walk bent over with my head hung low in pain and my body uncontrollably nauseous. The first thing I saw was the word ‘Hope’ on the front welcome mat and here began my journey of hope for better health at Hope Spinal Wellness.
I has searched for a high quality Chiropractor for 5 years, and after many moves found Veronica in Canterbury, just 5 miles from my home. After a week of chiropractic care, I could be moved without illness and no longer needed painkillers, which was all the medical doctors at the hospital could offer me. In 3 weeks I could drive again and now move with confidence as I continued my programme of chiropractic adjustments.
Veronica, her husband Scott and all the friendly staff at Hope Spinal Wellness have welcomed my family to theirs. Thanks to Veronica’s fun approach, my children’s first experiences of chiropractic care have made a positive impression on them. I believe they will continue to benefit in the future from this ideal introduction to chiropractors and I am very grateful to Veronica for this gift to my children, Hope and Michael.
As a family, we enjoy Wellness Workshops with veronica every week. I am now joining a yoga class at Hope Spinal Wellness and reading inspiring books Veronica recommends from her patient library. Veronica and I are of a similar age, backgrounds and busy mums too. It is very motivating for me to see a woman who is an amazing example of how vital, well and happy I could be with continued high quality chiropractic care and healthy life style changes.
I am full of gratitude to my chiropractor Veronica Hope and believe she deserves to be recognised as Chiropractor of the year - she certainly is to my family. Yours faithfully,
"I am a new person! Thank you Hope Spinal Wellness this is the future of health care."
Hi my name is John. One day I was driving and was struck in traffic. I looked across to Hope Spinal Wellness and saw the board saying free spinal checks today. So I turned off the road and parked up.
I thought about the time I went to the doctor’s a number of years ago when I had bad neck pain and he asked me twice whether I had been involved in a car accident. I would have known if I had!! There’s deterioration in your spine, which will get worse with age – no remedy was suggested.
I also thought that recently I was experiencing neck, shoulder and lower back pain after working at the computer and after gardening. It was not getting any better. Could anything be done?
So in I went. It can’t do any harm and I might learn something about my condition even if at my age (63) nothing much could be done.
What an amazing place! It was so bright, cheerful and welcoming. Reception greeted me with kindness showed me around and asked me to fill in some details. Then I saw Dr Hope a surname that truly fits the bill, as I was to find out later. It was great to sit down to talk freely about my problems, to be guided through what could realistically be offered and to be shown examples of cases of improvement. Dr Hope gave me positive encouragement and with Scott’s help (her ever patient husband) took x-rays, measurements and digital photos so later on I could see for myself where the problems were and I was to learn a new word “Subluxation”. I was recommended a course of spinal adjustments over an agreed period of time. My decision to go ahead was to be the right one.
After years of neglect I wondered how long it would be before I noticed any difference. With spinal adjustments, home exercise and positive encouragement I was noticing an improvement and other people had noticed a difference in my posture. This was confirmed by the new x-ray, like before and after pictures veronica as I now called her (a doctor and a friend) told me that my head had gone off the screen in the first set but had reappeared with the new set! Proof that changes were taking place and how regular adjustments really work.
Alongside this veronica runs workshops with Scott the technology wizard that emphasise the importance of all round health to feel good and full of energy at all times. Our lifestyle is so important for overall health, diet, posture, exercise and a positive outlook on life. When I succumbed to a viral infection Veronica was on hand to give me cold laser treatment and recommended a nutritional supplement to maintain optimum health and boost the immune system. So she really means it when she talks about Wellness.
So if you have any spinal or related problems what better place to come to than here. The welcome, the positive vibes, the friendliness, the meeting with others getting better and such a vibrant community make this a truly special place. Don’t hesitate you’ll be amazed at the results and the levels of care you receive not to mention the free fruit and water.
Thank you Hope Spinal Wellness this is the future of health care. I’m a new person and so could you be too.
"The change in my son has been wonderful and dramatic."
My pregnancy was easy and enjoyable, but the birth of my son was quite traumatic. Josh came into this world as a cone head- he was vacuum delivery. The labour had taken 30 hours. Joshua's heart had stopped and my condition had deteriorated so rapidly that he was literally sucked out and whisked away as he was in such a critical condition.
While his birth had been extremely traumatic, the first year of his life was heaven! I was very lucky to have an easy baby. Joshua fed and slept with none of the difficulties some mothers experienced with newborn babies. It wasn't until Joshua started on solid food that the problems began. He constantly had chesty coughs, which resulted in pneumonia, and he refused to eat unless it was milk bottle, chocolate or junk food.
This problem increased as he got older I presumed that it was a 'phase', or that my son was never going to be a big eater. When I did manage to get him to eat, the portion was tiny. At breakfast time I was lucky if he ate half a slice of toast. As he got older, his behaviour also deteriorated. My little angel was developing into a defiant temper tantrum-throwing devil!
Day care was a nightmare. He either cried all day, or took himself into the 'naughty corner' and stayed there all day or he bit and hit other children. I didn't seek medical advice, but changed a few things. I took him out of day care and moved in with my mother. I was and still am a single mum who works full time. I took time off work and tried to develop a better relationship with my son, as I had been back at work since he was 10 months old.
This change in circumstances improved his behaviour but not his eating habits. Josh began at kindergarten and his behaviour and moods improved as well. I came to visit my mother from Australia in November 2006 and she told me she had been visiting Hope Spinal Wellness and suggested that I pay them a visit- as I have had a problematic back for years.
Upon meeting Dr Veronica and hearing the benefits and logical manner with which you are treated and how and why, I decided to be treated along with Joshua (who was 4 1/2 at the time).
After Joshua's first treatment, I was stunned at the change in my son. His energy level was through the roof (thanks so much Dr Veronica!!) and he ate the biggest meal I have seen him eat - and he was asking for seconds! Since visiting the Hope Spinal Wellness clinic, Josh has stayed happy, healthy and always hungry.
The change in my son has been wonderful and dramatic. I also know when he needs to visit the clinic as he can be a little more naughty than usual and his appetite drops off a little.
I was unaware that the problems such as behaviour and eating could result from birth trauma and subluxations effecting the nerve system. After the first month, Joshua is a happy contented child. My mother wishes that Dr Veronica and the Hope Spinal Wellness clinic were around when my siblings and I were young, as she believes our 'growing pains' may have been cured as dramatically as my sons.
If you have problems - you or your children especially - please don't hesitate to visit Hope Spinal Wellness clinic - you will be amazed at the changes within your self and your children.
I whole-heartedly believe in the treatment provided by Dr Veronica and the Hope Spinal Wellness Team. I will be visiting a wellness practitioner when I return to Australia.
Thank you Dr Veronica and Hope Spinal Wellness team.
"I believe Spinal adjustments can help both adults and children with so many conditions."
I discovered Hope Spinal Wellness in the spring of 2004 after meeting Scott hope at Kingsmead leisure centre in Canterbury. I got talking to Scott while waiting for a friend and at that chance meeting it has changed my health forever! At the time I had been suffering from recurring repetitive strain injury (RSI) for over two years, which was attributed to constant computer use at work. I had tried physiotherapy over and over again but the symptoms only reduced slightly following treatment and always returned. I had found that only swimming or avoiding using the computer could reduce symptoms and at the end of my working week the chronic neck pain and discomfort would often leave me unable to move my head, so I had spent many a Friday night sitting in front of the TV in tears as a result of the pain and frustration at the immobility.
Following Scott's recommendations I took advantage of the free consultation and discovered that I had subluxations which would explain my chronic neck pain and also my irritable bowl syndrome which I had no idea could be associated with spinal problems! I then started under a regular schedule of adjustments, traction and exercises, to be honest I was slightly nervous about having my neck 'cracked' and wasn't 100% sure if spinal correction would help me that much. However I quickly began to look forward to my regular adjustments and I noticed a reduction in my chronic neck pain and discomfort in just a few weeks. After 3 months I was free of chronic neck pain and gastric problems: the continued treatment has left me free of RSI symptoms.
Whilst under care I was trying for a baby and fell pregnant. Due to personal circumstances I took a break from adjustments but about 6 months into my pregnancy I started to feel sciatic type pain in my lower back, which I learnt was due to my pelvis rotating slightly as my baby grew and so I then promptly returned to Hope Spinal Wellness as I new Dr Veronica could help me. Once again my symptoms were relieved and disappeared quickly. Despite my huge baby bump I continued treatment until the week before I gave birth. Two weeks after giving birth, myself and the baby Alexander came for a spinal check up to ensure any of the affects of the long labour were picked up.
Alexander developed sticky eye and a course of antibiotics had no affect other than to irritate the skin around his eyes. After 4 weeks of persistent secretion from his eye I once again turned to spinal adjustment. Dr Howard and Dr Veronica treated Alexander for over a week and his eye healed!
Since discovering spinal wellness my health and outlook on health has changed completely, despite the fact I have studied pharmacology and work for the pharmaceutical industry. Spinal adjustments are a non invasive and safe treatment option, which I believe can help both adults and children with so many conditions. I cannot recommend spinal wellness enough and especially Hope Spinal Wellness. I have the utmost trust and respect for Dr Veronica and Dr Howard and am so thankful for their help and to Julia and the staff at the clinic.
"My only regret is not trying this treatment earlier."
I first came to the centre because of severe pain which had been diagnosed by my Dr months before, after suffering with backaches on and off for years. The pains in my back had started to travel into my leg and became very painful at times.
My Doctor just kept prescribing me painkillers and anti-inflammatory pills; when they didn't work he gave me stronger ones. The pains became worse and started to affect my sleep and day to day activities.
While at the Whitstable Regatta I met Scott who had a stall there telling people about Spinal Care and about different kinds of treatment, so I made an appointment to have a check up (not holding out much hope) because by now I was willing to try anything.
At my first appointment I was asked about my condition and an examination took place, I also had some x-rays taken. When I returned for the results it showed I had wear to a disc in my lower spine which was putting pressure on the nerve (sciatic) this was one of the reasons for so much pain, although there were a few other problems.
It was explained fully to me by Veronica what was wrong and what treatment she could offer and what I could expect from the treatment (there's no miracle cure). So I agreed to start a course of adjustments (3 times per week), after 10 visits I had another examination to check my posture and progress. I was also given some exercises to help and attended a couple of workshops run on Wednesday nights one for posture and one on power stretching which I found very helpful.
I recently had my re-examination and I am awaiting the results of the x-rays but already I know there have been great improvements, my chronic back pains have gone, the pains in my legs have gone. I still get a small ache around my left knee but given time I expect this will clear as well. I also used to suffer with headaches about three times a week, these have almost totally cleared up as well; I've not had more than about 3 in over a month now and they are probably caused by work and family related stress ( normal for most people). I seem to have more energy now a bit more get up and go. I am sleeping so much better which is a godsend as I work nights and have to get the majority of my sleep in the mornings.
My only regret is not trying this treatment earlier it may have caught my problem at an earlier stage and I might not have had to endure the months of pain that I was going through while seeing a doctor who thought painkillers were the answer and it was something you just had to live with.
I would like to finish with a big thank you to Veronica, Scott and Amanda at Hope Spinal Wellness who throughout this course of care have been caring and considerate and have kept me updated with my progress any information I may have needed. It's great each morning I go for my adjustments and they are always smiling and so full of life it makes me feel better straight away. I'm off on holidays for a few weeks but when I return I will be back for my adjustments as I need them.
"I can’t thank them enough for my new lease of life."
1971 was a bad year for me I had a serious car accident, as a result I suffered head injuries, a broken right arm, my hip was injured and my left knee was also damaged. I underwent surgery for my left knee and it was suggested I could suffer from problems in the future as a result of the damage and injuries I had incurred. In 1990 I had a complete right hip replacement and a complete left knee reconstruction in 1992. My right hip had to be re-replaced in 2000, but kept dislocating, I spent in all 7 ½ weeks in hospital on traction and another 3 months strapped in a brace. As a result of all this the muscles and tendons in my right hip detached and died, so I had a lot of pain and walked with a stick with a bad limp, my quality of life was very poor.
My husband a keen cyclist saw Scott at a Downlands cyclist event in Canterbury who booked him an appointment. They managed to improve his posture and helped him keep on with his cycling at age 71. Although I could see the improvements with my husband, it was more than a month before I felt brave enough for Dr Veronica to check me. I was petrified I could be made worse or that my hip might dislocate during treatment.
With gentle spinal care Dr Veronica and the team have helped me back to a new lease of life, I don’t need the pain killers, and I am upright, not twisted. There is nothing they can do to stop me limping, but it is not so pronounced and I don’t use a stick indoors now, I can even attend the stretch class at the Kingsmead gym, I do feel so much better and no longer feel so depressed.
I only wish we had found the Hope Spinal Wellness 20 years ago, I am certain I would have been back on my feet and not had so many operations. I can’t thank them enough for my new lease of life. My daughter and grandson are also benefiting from spinal wellness care, having seen the improvement with me they now have the help they need.
Thank you Dr Veronica and the team.
"I would urge anyone with back pain to try chiropractic."
I suffered a back injury at age 16, my own fault, trying to lift something way too heavy for me. The treatment for this prescribed by my GP was "a week bed rest with a board under the mattress" Being young, fit and strong, in time I got over it.
Some years later, at age 30, I started to get real bad back pain, which spread down the back of my right leg, to the point where I had difficulty with just about everything. My GP referred me to a specialist, who diagnosed me as having "ankylosingspondilitis" which was explained to me as a degenerative condition, a form of arthritis of the spine, which would get more severe as I grew older. My treatment was anti-inflammatory drugs, which played havoc with my digestive system, and were ineffective in affording me any relief. I resorted to living on paracetamol and ibuprofen for many years, and tried to keep as mobile as possible, to prevent the disease from progressing, and generally just learned to live with back pain, sometimes bad, sometimes light, and accepted my fate.
Fast forward to Sept 2010 age 56. I started to get severe pain, in my lower back, and radiating down my right leg to the ankle, and could hardly walk at all. Not being a quitter, I put up with it for as long as possible, believing this to be a flare up of my disease, which hopefully would soon subside, but it didn’t. My GP referred me for an MRI scan. The scan results revealed that I never had ankylosingspondylitis, I had damage to discs in the lumbar region of my spine!
I received a follow up exam with a Trauma &Orthopaedics specialist, who recommended surgery, in the form of a “discectomy &coflexprocedure” to relieve my pain. He went on to tell me that there was only a 70% chance of this being successful, or, there could be no improvement at all, or possibly worse.
Another option offered to me was that of “lumbar steroid epidural”with a 30% chance of success, but it also could give no improvement, or made possibly worse. I asked if a “Chiropractor” would be able to relieve my pain, and was told, and I quote, “Absolutely no way, don’t waste your money, there is no way a Chiropractor can help you, and don’t believe any of them who say that they can”. He prescribed anti-depressants and painkillers. So, now, not only am I in pain, I am walking round like a zombie!
I got on the internet to do some research into surgery, and didn’t like what I found: a large percentage of people that had the procedure ended up worse off. I decided that having been wrongly diagnosed in the first place, that the medical profession could also be wrong about Chiropractic treatment.
Whilst checking Chiropractic care in general, the name Hope Spinal Wellness cropped up. For obvious reasons the name Hope was appealing, and I remembered seeing the centre at St Stephens Rd, when travelling to and from work. I was warmly welcomed to the centre, and had my initial consultation with Dr Roz, and related my above story. All procedures regarding treatment and chiropractic care were explained to me fully. I was examined and had x rays taken.
I returned for my next appointment to discuss what could be done for me.Dr Roz explained what the condition of my spine was, and made me aware that whilst there was no miracle cure available, a course of spinal adjustments along with chiropractic care, could certainly improve my present situation. I began treatment of twice weekly adjustments straight away. After some initial discomfort, I soon began to feel the benefits. After four visits, I was able to stop medication completely! I have been given exercises and a traction unit which I can use at home to complement my adjustments, and am also able to attend weekly workshops, all of which combine to make a complete care package.
I am now eight months into my treatment, still medication free. I am able to check on my progress through regular examinations, my pain levels have reduced by a very significant amount, and I am now able to live something like a normal life. I now have a better understanding of how the body works, and its healing processes. I always enjoyed a walk, and recently I walked from Reculver to Ramsgate along the shoreline, for me, that was a major achievement.
I would urge anyone with back pain to try chiropractic. I’ve had 25 years of pain, which may well have been prevented with the right people and the right care!

success-stories :Peggy and Garry
It was some 13 years ago, that my wife Peggy and I first came in to contact with Hope Spinal wellness – Peggy had been referred because of on-going back/shoulder problems and she was full of the improvement she was experiencing through the treatment she was receiving.
It was at that time that I too was suffering with my own shoulder and neck problems. She therefore suggested to me that maybe something could be done to help me with my situation and so I decided to go for an assessment myself – so with an open mind off I went. May I also mention at the same time that I was a very regular headache sufferer: in fact it was almost part of my daily life [I must have kept the drug companies in business]. Anyway, my assessment showed that both my posture, which left a lot to be desired, and my neck problems, could both perhaps benefit from some Chiropractic help. So I embarked on a period of regular adjustments together with some self-help neck exercises and it was not long before I saw marked improvement not only with my shoulder pains but with my general wellbeing and posture. And little did I think that the root cause of my headaches had any connection with my spinal cord or my nervous system or my “less than satisfactory” posture. Because here too I was amazed to find that after a short period into my treatment my headaches became less frequent an eventually disappeared completely.
As the improvement to our problems significantly, Peggy and I felt that we had arrived at a situation where we had received sufficient treatment. And so we thanked Dr Veronica and her team and off we went to enjoy the considerable enhancements to our posture and general health that had been given to us.
Some ten years later, and Peggy and I were finding that we were once again experiencing similar problems with head and neck that we had done previously; [however my headaches continued to be very rare animals indeed]. And so with little hesitation we returned to Hope Spinal Wellness and asked for an assessment check/update. Amongst other things it soon showed that our postures had deteriorated and that we needed help to improve other areas like our neck and shoulders again.
We are now about halfway through our latest treatments and taking advice about daily stretching and posture exercises, what we have found is not only the expected improvements to neck and shoulders etc after a period of adjustments, but a very marked improvement in our general fitness ability. For example, I am now 73 but continue to play a reasonably good standard of golf 2 or 3 times a week. I am amazed at how much easier I am able to get around the course and how much less tired I am at the end of each round than I used to be before this latest period of treatments. The same goes for Peggy and her golf.
We are both really grateful for the increased freedom of movement and the extra physical ability we have developed. And it’s all down to Dr Veronica and her professional team from the friendly welcome we receive each time we walk in and the great enjoyment we get from the various workshops.

"With regular adjustments to free Subluxation's we are both on our way to optimal health."
For fifteen to sixteen years Peter has suffered with back problems, sometimes so bad he spent two to three days at any one time unable to work. He went to a chiropractor which helped to ease the pain and after a few treatments he stopped going. He thought chronic back pain was just something that he would have to put up with so he went to the doctor and was prescribed a 'painkiller'. So life went on, taking painkillers when the pain was severe and taking time off from work.
Three years ago Peter's back took a turn for the worse. He was now self-employed so time off from work was out of the question. There was a local chiropractor so he went for treatment but the pain didn't improve. Again, he thought this was a waste of both his money and time and so he stopped going.
Peter's back was a way of life for us, he was walking around like an old man. Even when the pain wasn't too bad he was frightened to do too much, just in case. He couldn't sit for long, couldn't stand for long, and even walking short distances seemed to cause him pain and discomfort in his lower back. Seeing him like this was upsetting, but what could I do? His back was running both our lives, it was one big headache!
So, it became time to find a chiropractor again, but which one? We found Hope Spinal Wellness in the Yellow Pages and made an appointment in October 2003. Peter set off with the same thoughts of 'here we go again, more money' but he was pleasantly surprised to find that at the Hope Spinal Practice things were different. He sat down and was asked to watch a video of a man talking about Subluxation, a word that Peter had never even heard of before. After the video, Peter was introduced to Dr. Howard, a locum for Dr. Veronica who was on maternity leave. Questions were then asked and x-rays taken and a course of treatment was decided on initially for three times a week.
After four or five adjustments we noticed that there was improvement. At this point Peter mentioned to Dr. Howard that I was getting headaches four or five times a week and that I also suffered from severe colds and so I was invited along, but I didn't really know why as I didn't have any problems with my back. Anyway, I went along and saw the video, had an x-ray taken and was told by Dr. Howard that my neck had forward head shift and I was in phase two degeneration of parts of my spine. Again, a course of treatment of three times a week was decided upon. We also regularly went along to the Wednesday night workshops which were really interesting.
Over the course of twelve months, treatment went from three times a week to once a week. Life is now good again. Peter's back is 80% better and he is exercising and stretching daily, we have also just signed up for another year of spinal care. My headaches are now few and far between and I haven't had a cold since I started getting adjusted about a year ago.
We now know that we don't have to put up with pain. The care we have received at Hope Spinal Wellness has taught us how to understand our spines and nervous systems and how they relate to our overall health. With regular adjustments to free Subluxation's we are both on our way to optimal health.
"I was so amazed at how my life has change since starting Spinal Wellness care."
Hi, my name is Rebecca Haywood, I'm 26 years old and have just finished my first 3 months of care. I've had such great results that I'd like to share with you my experience and what lead me to Hope Spinal Wellness.
I was suffering with daily headaches/migraines, lower chronic back pain and trouble with my hips. I had been suffering from the headaches and migraines for about 10 years, I visited my GP on many occasions and each time was prescribed more painkillers. It got to the point that when I was studying for my A-levels I would fall asleep in lessons due to the effect of the migraine tablets. From then on I stopped taking them and relied on over the counter paracetamol and codeine tablets, as they seem to help me and didn't interfere with my life.
The lower chronic back pain started about 6 years ago while I was studying at university. I didn't really do much about it for many years, just took more painkillers, this time ibuprofen. I eventually saw a physiotherapist and was given a series of exercises to do and sent on my way. These helped in the short term but never got rid of the root cause of the pain. The hip pain I started to notice more recently. If I went cycling, running or walked a long way my hips would start clicking and cause me fair amount of pain, so much that I had to stop the exercise I was doing. This I just put up with, as most of the women on my mum's side of the family have hip trouble, I thought it was just something I inherited.
A friend a work referred me to Hope Spinal Wellness, she had been having regular adjustments for the last 6 years. She saw the problems I was having and told me about spinal care and how she thought it would be able to help me. I was a bit sceptical at first, as I didn't fully understand how having the correct spinal alignment would help me, I'd never even heard of the term subluxations! Despite this my friend gave me a free gift of health referral, where I had my posture checked, an initial examination and x rays. After talking to Dr. Veronica, I started to understand what subluxation was and how it could affect your whole body.
My reports were very interesting, I learnt more about subluxation and how they were affecting my body. Dr. Veronica explained how I had no curve in my neck and my head was too far forward. My top vertebra was also at the wrong angle. Dr. Veronica then explained how this could be causing a lot of my headaches. Subluxations were also found in my lower back, which was causing the lower chronic back pain and the hip trouble and in the middle of my back, which I never had any symptoms from.
After my first adjustment I felt a bit dizzy and sick, but was reassured by the team at Hope that was to be expected at first. After my second adjustment my headaches stopped. I was amazed at how quickly I was starting to feel better. My headaches have gone from daily to having only 3 in the last 3 months! I no longer have to buy painkillers when I do the weekly shopping. After a few more adjustments my lower back stopped hurting, I was starting to have more energy. I've recently started running again, and haven't had any trouble with my hips clicking.
Attending the workshops has also helped; they have given me a better understanding of how subluxations can affect your every day life and how what you eat and how you exercise you can help improve your quality of life.
I was so amazed at how my life has changed since starting Spinal Wellness care, that I've already referred my boyfriend! I would like to say thank you to Dr. Veronica and the team for all their help it's greatly appreciated.
"I have had all of my children's spines and postures checked out and they all enjoy their regular adjustments. I have also noticed real improvements in all of their lives."
Hi, my name is Rick White. I have been coming to Hope Spinal Wellness since November 2005. I have spent over 12 years in the armed forces, during which time I carried heavy back packs on long marches, ran many miles with boots on, and all kinds of adventurous activities, along with the normal rigours of army life.
I have also competed in off road motorcycle events around Europe. During this time I picked up many injuries, including back, neck and nerve. I have had years of treatment for all of these injuries including physiotherapy, surgery and buckets of painkillers, none of which really worked.
Last year I had to take 6 weeks off work as I could hardly walk or move. It was at this point that I tried spinal adjustment at the hope centre with Dr Veronica. Because I drive a lorry for a living, the care plan of exercise and regular adjustments have been working on a three steps forward and one step backwards basis, but I still have the occasional bad days.
However, since starting spinal care, I have been able to start playing golf, riding off road motorbikes and even rock climbing, so believe me it works.
I have had all of my children's spines and postures checked out and they all enjoy their regular adjustments. I have also noticed real improvements in all of their lives. The spinal wellness care offered by the Hope Spinal Centre is a whole lot more than just spinal adjustments; it goes much further, providing really informative workshops which teach you how to get the best out of life. I would strongly recommend anyone who reads this to get a full spine and posture check up.
"Just remember without regular spinal adjustments where would I or you be now?."
I had lower back pain with a slight touch of sciatica for probably 10 years, if I am honest maybe a lot longer, but I always managed to work through it or “put up with it” that was about to change, one day about 5 years ago when whilst at work which can involve heavy lifting my back just gave out and I spent the next 3 days flat on the floor unable to move with pain like I have never experienced before, .but after time I was able to carry on with everyday life but things weren’t the same and where I had worked through it before it was now a struggle.
I eventually went to the doctors who referred me for a few treatments of physiotherapy at the local hospital it didn’t help so I decided to do something myself. I had vaguely heard of Spinal practitioners and looked at the ads in the yellow pages don’t ask me why I stopped at Hope Family Wellness centre one-luck? Maybe synchronicity! Anyway along I came and had an examination, x-rays which showed that my spine was fairly out of alignment. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain so I took the plunge and started treatment.
Like most new patients rightly or wrongly you think its going to be a quick fix- sometimes it isn’t it sometimes takes time and hard work and a lot of commitment but through the workshops where you learn so much about your own health and with the help of Dr Veronica and the excellent wellness team you will start along the road to improving your health and wellbeing. And as for me the good periods of wellness stretch longer and for out weigh the bad and you. Just wonder without regular spinal adjustments where would be now
"When I read all the patient testimonials I thought a lot were too good to be true but now almost a year later I believe they are true."
When I first went to Hope Spinal Wellness centre almost a year ago now I was a complete mess, I had severe chronic back pain, pain in my piriformis (muscles that are just above cheeks in the bottom) and pain down my neck. I had tried various chiropractors and practitioners, acupuncture and was taking painkillers prescribed by my G.P I was really depressed and taking it out on my husband and 9-year-old son.
I came to Hope Spinal Wellness centre very sceptical of what they would do. Julia greeted me on the front desk that was very friendly and put me at ease. I then had a posture check and x-rays with Dr Veronica. I came back the next day for my results and was really shocked at how bad it was, never the less Dr Veronica was convinced she could help me get my life back, she found a very curved spine and arthritis in my neck but with proper corrective program Dr Veronica could get my healing and life back on track.
Now my condition has improved I only have to attend the Hope centre once a week to have an adjustment but still do the exercise program at home I was given which I do on a daily basis. The Hope Clinic also holds workshops once a week, each week being a different subject on wellness, these are really good, and you get to meet the rest of the team and other patients who attend our clinic.
Anyone who is thinking of trying the Hope clinic 'Go for it' you will not find a more welcoming team than this any problems you have you can talk to him or her confidently and they will try to help. When I read all the patient testimonials I thought a lot were too good to be true but now almost a year later I believe they are true, I am a better person for the help and care that Dr Veronica has given me.

"Thanks to the Tour De France"
If it had not been for that well publicised cycling event coming to Canterbury in July 2007, I (Sylvia) would probably never have visited the Hope Spinal Wellness Clinic.
I had been suffering lower back pain and sciatica in my right leg for approximately five years, probably caused by digging too enthusiastically in the garden. I also had a history of back pain from an accident whilst at school. My G.P. had prescribed analgesics and I had an MRI Scan and an epidural injection – all to no avail. I also tried Physiotherapy, Accupuncture, Osteopathy and McTimoney Chiropractic treatment and it became evident that no improvement could be expected.
On talking with Scott in the Dane John Gardens on the day before “The Tour” he persuaded me to visit the Hope Spinal Wellness Clinic. The very name was encouraging but I held little hope of help, having been resigned to the pain and discomfort for a long time.
After an initial examination and x-ray, Dr. Veronica explained that I had forward carriage in the neck resulting in bad posture, a subluxation in my spine and long term vertebral degeneration (the last not surprising since I am in my seventies). She believed she could improve my posture and sciatica but that the degeneration was an aging process.
I began with three appointments per week and have seen good improvement in my posture and the forward carriage of the neck. My general health, immunity and energy have been greatly enhanced. They have been aided also by attending the various, very enjoyable, evening workshops and by knowing that there are people who genuinely care for my wellbeing. The sciatica is still troublesome (Veronica did tell me it would be a long job) but I do have good days now and feel confident that it will continue to improve with my once-a-week adjustments.
I (Brian) was greatly encouraged by Sylvia’s initial experiences at the Wellness Clinic and was readily persuaded to undergo an examination of my upper back. I had been suffering pain probably caused by lifting heavy suitcases whilst on holiday seven years previously. Whilst my golf was thankfully not unduly affected, use of the computer mouse, general lifting and digging the vegetable patch all proved very tiring and painful occasions. I had also been experiencing low grade migraine headaches since being a teenager.
An examination and x-ray carried out by Dr. Veronica revealed subluxations in my back and neck. I then began adjustments, initially three times a week but now reduced to a once weekly visit. I also carry out traction on my neck at home and the workshops have introduced me to a series of easy exercises. I very soon experienced a significant improvement in energy levels, a reduction in shoulder and back pain and markedly fewer headaches.
The workshops have confirmed our beliefs in the importance of a healthy diet and adequate daily fluid intake. The latter, although not easy to start with, is well worth the effort. The workshops have assisted significantly the overall treatment in improving our personal wellbeing and optimistic outlook on health and life in general.
We have been very impressed with the kindness and enthusiasm shown to us both by Veronica, Scott and all the staff at the Hope Spinal Wellness Clinic. They have convinced us of the influence that the spine and nervous system can have on a whole variety of health problems and that adjustments can lead to improvement and indeed cure of a wide range of health problems.

"Since discovering Hope Spinal Wellness our health & outlook on life has changed completely"
Since discovering spinal wellness my health and outlook on health has changed completely. Spinal adjustments are a non-invasive and safe treatment option, which I believe can help both adults and children with so many conditions. I cannot recommend Hope Spinal Wellness care enough. I have the utmost trust and respect for the HSW team and am so thankful for their help and we feel very much part of the wider HSW family.
I discovered Hope Spinal Wellness (HSW) in the spring of 2004 after meeting Scott Hope at Kingsmead Leisure Centre - and that chance meeting has changed my health forever! I had been suffering from recurring repetitive strain injury (RSI) for 2+ years, which was attributed to constant computer use at work.
Following Scott's recommendations I took advantage of the free consultation and discovered that I had subluxations which would explain my chronic neck pain and also my irritable bowel syndrome (which I had no idea could be associated with spinal problems).
Due to personal circumstances I took a break from adjustments but about 6 months into my pregnancy I started to feel sciatic type pain in my lower back, which I learnt was due to my pelvis rotating slightly as my baby grew and so I then promptly returned to HSW as I knew Dr Veronica could help me. Once again my symptoms were relieved quickly. Despite my huge baby bump I continued treatment until the week before I gave birth. Two weeks after giving birth, myself and baby Alex came for a spinal check up to ensure any of the effects of the long labour were picked up. Alex developed sticky eye and a course of antibiotics had no affect other than to irritate the skin around his eyes. After 4 weeks of persistent secretion from his eye I once again turned to spinal adjustment and after a week his eye healed!
My whole family are now under the care of HSW. I had regular adjustments throughout my 3 pregnancies and the adjustments have proven the only successful way to keep recurrent ear infections at bay for my 2nd son Cameron. Baby #3 is due in a few months and I plan to have us both adjusted as soon as we are back from hospital. The baby will arrive by c-section and am very aware of the impact such a delivery can have on a baby – the spinal adjustments & cranial manipulation will help set my baby on an healthier path from the start and help to make up for missing out on the natural processes set off by movement along the birth canal.

success-stories :Tooth Family
"If you are just starting or considering treatment, we believe it will be your first step towards better health & most definitely a positive tonic for life".
We are the Tooth Family Trevor, Rachel, Oliver and Verity
I (Trevor) had a lower back pain which would come and go, but caused discomfort due to a sports injury when I was younger. Having been to many chiropractors, without much success, like many I had accepted that I would have to live with it, being told that it was wear and tear and of course, age.
However, I found that hard to accept and was always on the look out for another option, which is when I met Scott Hope at Tankerton regatta where he was enthusiastically promoting the philosophy of Hope Spinal Wellness. I was intrigued by his positive approach which was very different from my previous experiences. So I had a brief chat, took a card and made an appointment.
When I was examined an x-ray was taken and my condition diagnosed, and although there was wear between the lower disc it was not as bad as I had been lead to believe by other chiropractors. I started regular visits to, as I see it, re-program my spine to sit into the correct or better curvature. This along with the exercise and good clear information was encouraging. After several sessions I could feel the difference and got to understand that there was more to this practice than I had previously understood, as it had a new approach and way of thinking with bounds of positivity thrown in by Veronica, Scott and the staff for good measure. I could honestly say whatever sort of day or time I was having, be it good, bad or indifferent I could not help but be lifted by their positive aptitude towards not only your treatment but you as a person, that is something quite special, and I thank them for that.
I am a fairly positive person willing to try most things once, whereas my wife Rachel is the opposite, but I encouraged her to come to try it out and see for herself if it could benefit her and our children.
After some encouragement I (Rachel) decided to go along to see what Hope Spinal Wellness could do for me and the children. I felt lethargic lacking energy, with back/ knee ache and some digestion problems. I felt this was caused by being a mum of two young children and general day to day stresses of life. Veronica examined me and the children and put together a plan of action for us all. At first my treatments were 3 visits a week and although intense the results were very noticeable in these early stages with good improvement. I needn’t have worried about having 2 young children in tow due to the modern approach in the way patients are treated, we could be in and out within conveniently with the children adjusted at the same time. However it can take longer if Oliver & Verity start chatting to their little network of friends that they have met during our sessions!
Veronica, Scott and Sue put me and the children at ease during our first appointment and we’ve never looked back! (ha ha).
As a family we have now been attending Hope Spinal Wellness for 3-4 years and find that we continuously benefit from our regular adjustments. We have noticed not only have our initial conditions improved, but if we or the children have coughs, colds or sickness with extra adjustments we seem to recover in no time.
This leaves us only to say as a family thank you to Veronica, Scott and the team at Hope Spinal Wellness and if you are just starting treatment or considering it, we believe it will be your first step towards a better health and most definitely a positive tonic for your life going forward.
Vicki and Beau
success-stories :Vicki and Beau
"Investing in Hope Spinal Wellness care is one of the best decisions we have ever made. We both feel so much healthier and happier."
Hi - we're Vicki & Beau and we've been attending Hope Spinal Wellness for just over a year. We'd like to tell you our story in the hope that we might inspire other people to try spinal adjustive care because there is no greater gift than the gift of good health.
Mutual friends of ours had been advising us for years to visit the Hope Spinal Centre but we were both so busy, we did not make it a priority. Beau had tolerated his condition for years and now in his late forties had almost resigned himself to expecting his problems to get worse, not better. Beau's main problems included very bad lower chronic back pain which left him with a stiff back, not being able to move freely and being in constant pain. Beau had suffered from these symptoms since his early twenties.
I was involved in a road traffic accident in September 2004 which left me with a fractured pelvis, fractured ribs, twisted knee and serious whiplash. The irony was that I was less than three months into my 'Year off.' I had decided to take a year out from the rat race and put my health first because I knew I wasn't in very good shape. After working for ten years in a senior management position, working sometimes 70 hours a week, I no longer looked or felt in my early thirties. I just felt terrible. Coupled with caring for my mother, who suffers from dementia, and recovering from glandular fever, I needed to rethink my entire attitude to health.
Health issues I had even before the accident included recurring migraine headaches, terrible IBS and an overwhelming feeling of anxiety which I felt was self-indulgent and embarrassing. I could not sit still for five minutes, felt really claustrophobic and also felt like I needed the loo all the time. I rarely slept through the night and I was constantly tired. It never occurred to me that all the stress I had been through had physically affected my body and that it wasn't just a matter of mind over matter.
Beau had seen an osteopath on several visits which did not help when his back flared up. He would be on anti-inflammatory medication for weeks on end; other than that he just lived with the pain and had to watch his every step. I consumed too many pain killers for my headaches and I knew I had to find an alternative.
The only good thing to come out of my accident is that it was the catalyst I needed to book an appointment to attend Hope Spinal Centre. Beau came along on my first couple of visits as I was still on crutches and not ready to drive. By the end of the first visit we decided that it was just as important for Beau to be treated, even though he had tolerated his condition for years, we suddenly realised that his need to return to health was just as urgent as mine.
At our original examination we found out that Beau had a crushed lower disc. He was advised that this could not be repaired but with spinal care the pain could be improved. We were both suffering from forward head shift which if left untreated would almost inevitably lead to us developing the foetal hunch that so many older people suffer from and that neither of us wanted. After learning about how the central nervous system is affected by the spine it became apparent to us that our nervous system could not possibly communicate effectively with our organs if we let this degeneration continue.
The results from my examination naturally confirmed the damage that had been done in the accident but also some long term stress that had been caused by my lifestyle previous to that. I found it fascinating to see the direct link between the area of stress to my spine, illustrated by the spinal heat scan, and the effect that it was known to have on my body. It was also evident that my migraine headaches must be directly linked to my severe forward head shift. I spent years with the telephone held between my head and shoulder whilst writing out copious notes with my head bent over a desk. I would never do that now.
Within six weeks of following the recommended course of treatment Beau noticed a considerable decrease in lower chronic back pain. Spinal adjustments, care and advice on the importance of stretching meant increased flexibility. He can now put his socks on in the morning! Beau has also regained much more flexibility in his neck making it much easier to ride his motorbike. His posture is better but most important of all Beau's asthma has improved.
I noticed a change almost immediately. I cannot describe the relief of having the pressure removed from my neck and shoulders. It literally felt like a massive back pack had been taken away. I feel straighter and lighter. It also helped so much to know that my health issues could be directly traced to the stress my body was under which inevitably affected my sense of well being. I do not like to admit I have weaknesses, it was so hard to admit how I secretly felt inside but I was reassured that I could take control of my symptoms and be restored to full health. I soon found out that Hope Wellness care is more than just turning up for an adjustment and expecting that to be enough. I had to take responsibility for maintaining the effectiveness of that adjustment at home.
It took a while but regular use of my home traction has now become a reward for me rather than a chore. It's what I look forward to after hours at the computer or at the kitchen sink! I reach for my home traction before I reach for pain killers, on the rare occasions that I get a headache. After attending various workshops I realised that I had been ignoring the obvious, that I should cut caffeine and dairy out of my diet. Once I did that I was naturally calmer and my IBS greatly improved. Encouraged as I was to look into every aspect of my health, I took up yoga and read voraciously to educate myself about my phobias and then took the appropriate action.
At 35, I now feel 25, with much more energy, vitality and vigour. I have regained my former sunny disposition and zest for life. I do not let stress affect me the way it used to and I have a much better understanding of how my body works and therefore much more respect for it. Now I've seen the light, I want everybody else to!
Investing in Hope Spinal Wellness care is one of the best decisions we have ever made. We both feel so much healthier and happier. We are delighted to recommend them whenever we get the chance because we know we are genuinely helping people to take the first step towards improving their health. Beau and I will continue to attend Hope Centre because it is a way of life for us now, a minimum standard to ensure we maintain our most precious asset - our health.
"I am thankful I met the whole team at Hope Spinal Wellness who do a wonderful job."
I had had pain in my lower back for 18 years, it had reached such a point that when I stood up I had to let everything settle before I started to walk. Then last summer my neck decided to join ranks with my back making life even more uncomfortable.
I had visited my GP with the back pain over the years but was not satisfied with the diagnosis or treatment, which included a short course of physiotherapy at my local hospital and exercises which I did at home. As this did not give me relief from the pain, he then prescribed co-codamol for which I would be able to obtain a repeat prescription. I sought help from a Chiropractor in 2005 who through an X-Ray showed a misalignment in my lower spine. I had a course of adjustments, which helped, but not maintenance (my fault).
As my luck or fate would have it, Hope Spinal Wellness offered a spinal check at a Yoga Retreat in Canterbury last September. I thankfully took advantage of this and have never looked back!
I attended the clinic for my first appointment consisting of x-rays and photographs showing my posture. The second appointment was for assessment and treatment plan. Dr Roz asked me what my aim would be, it was to be pain free and have improved posture and health.
I have stuck to the plan attending twice a week for the first 3 months. I then had a re-assessment which showed a vast improvement, and I now have weekly adjustments. I have also benefited from attending Wednesday evening workshops at the clinic and Kingsmead Leisure Centre. I have worked on my posture with exercises I learnt at these, as well improved my positive thinking (see below).
I have practiced Yoga and Tai Chi for some years. I have found that since starting Chiropractic care my balance has improved and I can now perform balances postures without wobbling around. I can also sit on my ‘sit bones’ during floor exercises comfortably, which I hadn’t been able to do for some time.
As well as the above, and more importantly I have much less discomfort. I can stand up and walk with ease. The neck pain has all but been eliminated – I can comfortably look over both shoulders (not at the same time!) and my head and shoulders rolls are no longer agony. What has also helped my neck is the Spinal Pillow.
I know I still have a way to go yet but I also know that being positive towards the adjustments and continuing to work on my posture will mean the difference to my body (spine) in the years to come. I am thankful I met the whole team at Hope Spinal Wellness who do a wonderful job.
My affirmation is as follows:-
My posture will improve every day with a positive mental attitude towards exercising and adjustments. Self help is the key. Laugh, sing, dance and enjoy every moment.
Never give up.
